SOFT STONE

RL and Soft Stone series
In the Rubylith and Soft Body Stone series, I use printmaking materials (rubylith) and processes (relief printing) to explore forms in relationship, that simultaneously represent earth and sky (landscape) and head and heart (the body). These forms become proxies for the human experience, and the world that we navigate. Simply put, the forms are stones and bodies, geologic and permanent, stoic and strong, yet vulnerable and fluid at the same time. Form pushes against other forms, expanding outward, activating their own edges and the edges of the other. I apply layers and layers of material to my surfaces, with intentional precision and inexactitude, the process revealing the act of seeking the edge, finding the boundary and extending it.
